Tips on Communicating With Real Estate Clients

A real estate agent is often juggling many parts of their jobs all at once. Making phone calls, scheduling appointments and showings, staying up-to-date on social media, taking appropriate courses to maintain current licensure and the list could go on and on.

One of the more important parts of the job of being a successful real estate agent is to encourage and maintain good communication with clients. Here are just a few ways you can connect and communicate successfully with your clients.

Follow Up in a Timely Manner

If your client has a question, be sure to answer it in a timely manner. Keeping your communication and feedback under a day is best practice. For instance, if your client heard about a house that may be coming on the market, do your best to research it and return the information as fast as you can. This may mean being on your phone a lot and multitasking throughout the course of the day.

Part of following up in a timely manner is knowing the best way to get in touch with your client. Some find that phone calls work best while others need emails or texts. Gather this information on the best way to contact you when you first meet your client. Additionally, have two forms of connecting in case one method is not working.

Meet In Person

One of the best ways to improve communication and make a good impression is to meet your clients in person at least initially. Whether you host them at your office, in a local coffee shop, or at a listing, making a personal connection is key to building and maintaining your relationship.

Once a relationship has been forged, connecting no longer needs to be in person and can be over the phone, through text, or even through social media.

Be Thorough

Real estate agents are busy people who handle many clients at once so there may be a tendency to rush or be short and sweet with communication. Try to resist this temptation.

For many home buyers and sellers, this is the largest financial transaction they will make in their lifetime. The process can be overwhelming and stressful. Be sure when you communicate, especially with new home buyers or sellers, to be clear in what you are saying. It doesn’t hurt to both say something verbally and then follow up with an email or text reviewing items and ideas that you went over.
